Pokédex & Data
Where PrimeDex comes from and what powers it.
What is PrimeDex?
PrimeDex is a free, open-source online Pokédex and Pokémon TCG catalog built with Next.js and React. It covers all 1025 Pokémon across 9 generations with stats, abilities, evolutions, moves, and locations, plus a full TCG card database. It runs in 9 languages, works offline after the first visit, and is not affiliated with Nintendo, Game Freak, or The Pokémon Company.
How many Pokémon are there in 2026?
As of 2026, the National Pokédex lists 1025 Pokémon across 9 generations — from Kanto (Gen 1, 151) to Paldea (Gen 9). PrimeDex tracks every one of them with full stat blocks, ability data, evolution chains, learnable moves, and habitat information.
Where does PrimeDex get its data?
All Pokémon data — stats, types, abilities, moves, evolutions, sprites, and official artwork — comes from the open PokeAPI project at pokeapi.co, a free, community-driven database. Trading card data (cards, sets, rarities, prices, images) comes from TCGdex at tcgdex.net, an open Pokémon TCG database.
Is PrimeDex affiliated with Nintendo or The Pokémon Company?
No. PrimeDex is a non-commercial fan project. Pokémon, all character names, and related properties are trademarks of Nintendo, Game Freak, and Creatures Inc. We make no claim of ownership, charge no money, and show no advertising. The full source code is MIT-licensed and available on GitHub.

Features & Tools
How to get the most out of the team builder, comparison, type chart, and quiz.
How does the Team Builder work?
Open the Team Builder at /team, add up to 6 Pokémon, and PrimeDex will automatically detect shared weaknesses, calculate offensive and defensive type coverage, and score team synergy. A balanced team typically covers 12 or more of the 18 types and minimizes overlapping weaknesses. Teams are saved locally in your browser — no account required.
Can I compare multiple Pokémon side by side?
Yes. The Compare tool at /compare lets you place 2 to 6 Pokémon side by side with full stat tables, radar charts, and type matchup summaries. It is the fastest way to see why a sweeper beats a tank, or which Pokémon in your box fits a missing team role.
What is the type effectiveness chart used for?
The interactive Type Chart at /types shows all 18 types and every offensive and defensive matchup at a glance. It is the quickest way to see why a STAB Earthquake hits 7 types for super-effective damage, or which dual-type pairing removes the most weaknesses from a given Pokémon.
How does the daily Pokémon quiz work?
The quiz at /quiz offers 6 modes — Classic, Silhouette, Stats, Time Attack, Survival, and Marathon — drawn from all 1025 Pokémon. Difficulty adapts to your performance, the daily seed is the same for every player for fair competition, and no sign-up is required. Your best scores are saved locally on your device.

TCG, Privacy & Account
How your collection is stored, whether you can go offline, and how to share your work.
How do I track my TCG card collection?
Open the TCG Catalog at /tcg, pick a set, and mark each card you own. Progress is shown per set and as a global percentage, so you can see at a glance how close you are to completing a set or the entire modern era. The catalog includes every officially released card with images, rarities, and current market prices.
Is my data stored on a server?
No. PrimeDex has no backend account system. Your favorites, team, caught list, TCG progress, and settings live in your browser using IndexedDB (with a localStorage fallback for very old browsers). Nothing is ever sent to a server. Clearing your browser data will erase your collection — we recommend exporting it from Settings if you switch devices.
Does PrimeDex work offline?
After your first visit, the application shell is cached and most pages render without a network connection. Live data fetches for new Pokémon or card sets do require an internet connection, but anything you have already viewed remains available offline thanks to TanStack Query caching and the service-worker-style cache the app uses.
Can I export or share my team and favorites?
Yes. Open Settings and use the export action to download your team, favorites, caught list, and TCG progress as a single JSON file. The same file can be imported on another device or shared with a friend. You can also share a public team URL that opens the same 6-Pokémon team in any browser.
